Information about roadworks in the Wairarapa regionInformation about roadworks in the Wairarapa region

The Wairarapa summer maintenance season begins at the start of October. Information on upcoming work will be posted late September.Well-maintained roads are an important part of keeping people safe. While we aim to do this work with as little disruption as possible, we know that roadworks can be inconvenient. Thanks for your patience and understanding while we do this important work. Please drive carefully through work sites and stick to the temporary speed limits. If you're driving around the Wairarapa this summer, roadworks on the state highway network may affect your travel plans. You can also see where roadworks are planned by clicking on the handy map to the right of this page

We will be doing three types of work across the region.

Resurfacing

This involves removing the top layer of the road surface using a milling machine, and then laying a new surface for traffic to run on.

Reconstruction

This is done where sections of the road need rebuilding and strengthening. We dig deeper into the road layers below the surface and remake them before laying a new surface for traffic to run on.

Chipsealing

This involves spraying bitumen over the old surface and spreading new chips. The new surface is then rolled to make sure the chips stay in place, and swept to remove any loose chips.

Large amounts of chipsealing work has already been completed in the Wairarapa this summer. If you have any thoughts on this work, please send us your feedback to customer@capitaljourneys.co.nz
