Night work on the motorway next week involves pavement works, moving barriers, changing line markingsLink, Cavendish Drive eastbound on-ramp, and setting up safe works zones around the Takanini Interchange. Sheet piling at Papakura Stream northbound will also begin. If it rains or ground conditions are too wet, work will be postponed until the next available dry night.
To construct an additional fourth southbound lane from SH20eastbound Puhinui on-ramp link to Hill Road, the eastern beam of Orams Road Bridge will be widened. The bridge will be temporarily closed to all traffic while this work takes place.
Night closures are typically from 9pm at night to 5am in the morning. Work during the night will allow our crews to operate equipment safely while adjacent to the existing traffic lanes. Work in the shoulder and median work zones will continue during the daytime next week, but this will not affect traffic movements.
With the lanes narrowed, there is less time to react to other vehicles and it is important that motorists keep to the 80 km/h speed limit past our work areas. There will be ongoing truck and project vehicle movements accessing the shoulder and median work sites. Keeping both motorists and our team members safe as possible is imperative and we need everyone's help to do this.
As always, we will be doing our best to minimise effects of these works on motorists as much as we can.
We thank you for your patience as we work to improve journey reliability and safety along the Southern Corridor.

Night work on the motorway next week involves vegetation clearance around Takanini Interchange, and pavement works on the new southbound off-ramp to Great South Road and in the median under Alfriston Road Bridge. We will begin earthworks in the median between the Pahurehure Inlet Bridges. Along Great South Road we are installing new safe work zones underneath the motorway to allow our crew to construct the new bridges which will widen the motorway over Great South Road. If it rains or ground conditions are too wet, work will be postponed until the next available dry night.
There is an extended night closure of the full motorway southbound from Manakau to the Takanini Interchange on Saturday night. We will complete work to “stitch” the new and old Papakura Stream Bridges together by pouring concrete between the two bridge decks. The extended closure is required for the bridge to gain sufficient strength, as vibrations from passing cars can impact on the curing process.
Night closures are typically from 9pm at night to 5am in the morning. Work during the night will allow our crews to operate equipment safely while adjacent to the existing traffic lanes. Work in the shoulder and median work zones will continue during the daytime next week, but this will not affect traffic movements.
