The NZ Transport Agency is a Crown entity governed by a board. We are 1401 people1450 people working in 14 locations around New Zealand.

Our purpose

Creating transport solutions for a thriving New Zealand

We do this by:

• managing almost 11,000 kilometres of state highways
• funding local roads and public transport
• managing driver testing, licensing and vehicle regulation
• running advertising and education programmes to keep transport safe
• funding land transport research.

Our role is to provide a vital link between government policy making and the operation of the transport sector. We work with many other agencies and organisations, both in New Zealand and internationally, to meet New Zealanders' daily transport needs.
