Paengaroa cycleway opensThe full 10 kilometre cycleway runs from Bell Road to Te Tumu Road, along the Tauranga Eastern Link Toll Road, and follows the Te Puke Highway into the growing village of Paengaroa. It plays a vital part in a planned cycle network that will connect the Western Bay of Plenty, giving people the choice of walking and biking around their communities, to school and to work.

Making urban cycling a safer and more attractive transport choice is a key priority for the Government, the Transport Agency and local councils. Through the Urban Cycleways Programme, central and local government will together be delivering $333 million of well-designed cycleways right across the country over the next three years. This will deliver over 300km of new cycleways and help to connect the current routes.

In the Western Bay of Plenty approximately $17 million is expected to be injected into cycling projects over the next three years, thanks to joint funding from the Government, Transport Agency, Tauranga City Council and Western Bay of Plenty District Council.

Investment in cycleways gives people who want to use cycling as their everyday transport choice the opportunity to commute to and from school and work, to go to the shops, to run errands, to get some exercise, or to simply go about their daily lives.
