Public consultation – June 2016

In June 2016 the Transport Agency was able to announce it had completed its two year investigation, planning and business case process, including gaining approval from its board for the overall draft alignment plan (an output of the final Detailed Business Case (DBC).

The draft alignment plan confirms which previous option/s shown in earlier consultations have now been approved to proceed into the resource consenting phase. This new phase involves the project team working in 2016-17 on consenting documentation, and lodging with the Environmental Protection Authority. At the same time, the team is also finalising more indepth design and engineering plans that consider safety, engineering and construction requirements.

To help inform this work prior to lodgement, the project team is seeking further stakeholder and public feedback. A brochure outlining the plans and community advertising will include a survey that can be completed before Friday 22 July8 July, 2016 and returned by freepost or online.

In particular, this consultation is focused on seeking feedback on these detailed topics:

  • Urban design ideas – the Northern Corridor runs through both residential and industrial areas, several nature feature sites, and follows the Northwest Wildlink corridor. Now’s a great time to start gathering urban design themes you’d like to see incorporated;
  • An additional bus  station – our partner Auckland Transport is investigating adding a bus station on the  new Busway extension, with Park & Ride options, at Rosedale. This station would service a major employment area. We want to know what benefits and issues you see with this location, and where you’d like to see bus services come from/go to;
  • Walking and cycling – we’ve confirmed our project includes a high quality shared path that will run alongside SH1 and SH18 and link into a wide range of other cycle routes. We’re now keen to know what places/locations you’d like to see road/path access points be built. We also want to know what you think about our proposed Spencer Road Bridge – a new off-road shared walking and cycling bridge over the motorway in Albany;
  • More focused investigations - on a local road connection for the Unsworth Heights community. We’re still investigating whether a local road bridge at Unsworth Drive would improve connectivity for local residents. There’s still a lot of safety and traffic flow analysis to be worked through. But we do want to know what local residents think.
