Access to Westney Road via Kirkbride Road closed from 24 Sept – 6 Nov

As part of the SH20A to Airport project, access to Westney Road from Kirkbride Road will be closed temporarily from Sat 24 September to Sunday 6 November 2016 . Detours will be in place and
motorists will still be able to exit Westney Road onto Kirkbride Road.

Kirkbride Road east from SH20A to Jordan Road will be closed 18 – 20 September from 8.30pm-5.00am for asphalting in preparation for the intersection works. Please follow the sign-posted detour.

What’s involved?

The closure is necessary to upgrade and signalise this intersection as well as further work including:

  • Upgrading stormwater drainage
  • Installing new kerblines
  • Replacing and constructing pavements
  • Upgrading road surfacing

A number of local road improvements are being undertaken as part of the project including new walking and cycling amenities and an upgraded and signalised intersection at Jordan/Kirkbride/Westney Roads.

The upgrade work at Jordan/Kirkbride Road intersection was completed in August and the full intersection will be completed and operational by the end of the year.

What do I need to do?

Please note the detour routes below.

Further road layout changes will be in place at SH20A/Kirkbride Road from July 20 2016 (weather dependent) until mid 2017.

What’s happening?

The next SH20A/Kirkbride intersection temporary alignment makes use of the newly constructed northbound on and off-ramps. These ramps will be used temporarily as the northbound traffic lanes.

The temporary alignment will be implemented on the evening of Sunday 17 July (weather permitting) and in place from Monday 18 July until mid-2017.

Traffic will be split into a dedicated northbound and southbound lane layout with northbound traffic moved onto the new ramps/lanes and southbound traffic staying where it is, creating a split between the directions of traffic flow.

Why?

This will allow for trench excavation to progress between the two traffic streams.

The new temporary intersection layout will involve turning movement changes for motorists including:

  • Removal of right turn movement from SH20A into Kirkbride Road east towards Massey Road – please use signposted detour
  • Reinstatement of the left turn from SH20A into Kirkbride Road west

Current turning restrictions that will remain:

  • No right turn from Kirkbride Road west into SH20A southbound – please use signposted detour
  • No right turn from Kirkbride Road east onto SH20A northbound – please use signposted detour

We ask that motorists drive with care, follow the signs and allow extra time to get to the Airport.
