Progress through NovemberPROGRESS THROUGH NOVEMBER

Over the last month, work has involved pavement construction, bridge upgrades, retaining/noise wall construction, drainage improvements, and services relocation.

Hill Road to the Takanini Interchange:

  • Retaining wall and noise wall construction continued along the southbound side of the motorway.
  • Earthworks and drainage works continued under the Alfriston Bridge and along the southbound shoulder of the motorway. This included shaping of the new open channels (also known as swales), which help treat stormwater as it runs off the motorway.
  • Pavement works commenced along the southbound shoulder of the motorway between Alfriston Road and the Takanini Interchange.

Takanini Interchange to Pahurehure Inlet:

  • Retaining wall and noise wall construction continued along the southbound side of the motorway.
  • Asphalting operations were performed in the median of the motorway, allowing it to be opened to traffic.
  • Installation of slip form barriers and light pole installation continued in the median.
  • Where required, tree removal and mulching continued along the shoulder of the motorway.

Other Areas:

  • At bridges crossing the railway line and on the Spartan Road Bridge, beam installation was completed. Retaining wall construction will continue in those areas. Take a look at the time lapse video of the Spartan Road Bridge beam installation here .areas.
  • On the Papakura Stream bridge, deck construction began, while earthworks and drainage works continued. This included shaping of the new open channels (also known as swales), which help treat stormwater as it runs off the motorway.
  • Continued offsite production of various components for retaining walls, noise walls, and bridges.

Work being undertaken in DecemberWORK BEING UNDERTAKEN IN DECEMBER

Over the next month, we will install temporary traffic management to extend our safe work zone from Hill Road to just north of Orams Road. This will include narrowed lanes, a 80kph reduced speed limit, and a reduced length of the SH20 merge lane. These temporary changes will allow us to establish a safe daytime work zone, begin widening the Orams Road Bridge, commence works on the Puhinui Stream Bridge and the southbound shoulder widening. We will continue working in the median and shoulders between Hill Road and the Pahurehure Inlet. We will also continue working to widen the motorway bridges over the Papakura Stream, and the KiwiRail Lines. Please note the Orams Road Bridge will be closed for 9 months from 23 January 2017 for demolition and reconstruction over the southbound lanes.

Work this month includes:

Manukau Interchange to Hill Road:

  • Southbound lanes will be narrowed and new barriers will be installed just north of Orams Road through to Hill Road.
  • The southbound SH20 merge lane will reduce in length to ensure traffic has merged safely before Orams Road Bridge.

Hill Road to the Takanini Interchange:

  • Earthworks and drainage works will continue along the southbound shoulder of the motorway. This includes shaping of the new open channels (also known as swales), which help treat stormwater as it runs off the motorway.
  • Paving operations will continue under the Alfriston Road Bridge.
  • Retaining wall and noise wall construction continued along the southbound side of the motorway between Alfriston Road and the Takanini Interchange.

Takanini Interchange to Pahurehure Inlet:

  • Earthworks and drainage works will continue along the southbound shoulder of the motorway. This includes shaping of the new open channels (also known as swales), which help treat stormwater as it runs off the motorway.
  • Retaining wall and noise wall construction continued along the southbound side of the motorway between Alfriston Road and the Takanini Interchange.
  • Light pole installation will continue in the median barrier.
  • Vegetation clearance will recommence along the northbound shoulder in preparation for drainage works.

Other Areas:

  • On the Papakura Stream bridge, bridge deck construction will commence, while earthworks and drainage works continue. This includes shaping of the new open channels (also known as swales), which help treat stormwater as it runs off the motorway.
  • At bridges crossing the railway line and on the Spartan Road Bridge, deck construction continues. Retaining wall construction will also continue in those areas
  • Offsite, production of precast components for retaining walls, noise walls, and bridges will continue.

With the lanes narrowed, there is less time to react to other vehicles and it is important that motorists keep to the 80 km/h speed limit past our work areas. There will be ongoing truck and project vehicle movements accessing the shoulder and the median work sites. Keeping both motorists and our team members as safe as possible is imperative and we need everyone's help to do this.

As always, we will be doing our best to minimise effects of these works on motorists as much as we can. We thank you for your patience as we work to improve journey reliability and safety along the Southern Corridor.
